Orune

Orune is a municipality in the Province of Nuoro with about 2,561 inhabitants, 750 metres above sea level.

Orune is a mountain village at 750 metres between Nuoro and Bitti, overlooking the Isalle valley and the mountains of Barbagia. It is medieval in origin, and Grazia Deledda set her novel Colombi e sparvieri here: passages from it are shown on plaques in the old streets. In its territory is Su Tempiesu, one of Sardinia's most remarkable nuragic monuments, a sacred spring with a gabled façade built from precisely worked blocks, discovered in 1953. The village has the 19th-century parish church of Santa Maria della Neve and the 14th-century church of San Giacomo, and on the first Monday of August Su Cossolu, the Consolata, is celebrated at the country sanctuary.
