Oliena is a village at the foot of the Supramonte, below the limestone walls of Monte Corrasi, a few kilometres from Nuoro. Its vineyards produce Nepente di Oliena, the Cannonau praised by Gabriele D'Annunzio, and at feasts women still wear the costume with its hand-embroidered silk shawl, among the island's most precious. The area is one of Sardinia's finest for walking: the Su Gologone spring, one of the island's largest, the Lanaitto valley with the nuragic village of Sa Sedda 'e Sos Carros, and the trail to Tiscali. At Easter S'Incontru brings the risen Christ and the Madonna in procession until they meet in the square.
