Orgosolo is the village of murals: since the 1960s its house fronts have been painted with hundreds of murals telling the history, struggles and life of Barbagia, turning the village into an open-air gallery. It stands at over six hundred metres at the foot of the Supramonte and has one of the island's largest and wildest territories. In the Supramonte of Orgosolo lie the source of the Cedrino at Funtana Bona, the Montes forest with its ancient holm oaks and the Pratobello plateau. The area has some sixty rock-cut tombs, menhirs and over thirty nuraghi. In January people dance around the Sant'Antonio bonfires, and the Assumption feast in mid-August brings out traditional costumes.
