Galtellì

Galtellì is a municipality in the Province of Nuoro with about 2,472 inhabitants, 35 metres above sea level.

Galtellì is the village of Reeds in the Wind: Grazia Deledda set her most famous novel here, and the old centre, with Baronia houses, lanes and churches, is part of the literary park dedicated to her. In the Middle Ages it was an important place, a district capital and seat of a diocese. The most characteristic buildings gather around the parish church of the Santissimo Crocifisso, and the Romanesque church of San Pietro, the old cathedral, keeps medieval frescoes. Above the village rises Monte Tuttavista. The feast of the Santissimo Crocifisso on 3 May brings costumed groups from all over the Baronia.
