Bono is the main town of the Goceano, at 540 metres in the mountains above the Tirso valley. On a fine square in the old centre stands the parish church of San Michele Arcangelo, built in the 16th and 17th centuries in an unusual mix of styles. Bono is famous for an episode in 1796, when the villagers drove back troops sent against the town for supporting Giovanni Maria Angioy; the victory is still marked by the pumpkin festival on 31 August, for San Raimondo Nonnato. Above the town lies the Monte Rasu forest.
