Anela is a small Goceano village on the slopes of the Marghine-Goceano range, with one of the finest state forests in northern Sardinia: as early as 1896 its thousand hectares of woodland were declared unsellable and so saved from felling. In the Middle Ages it was the capital of the Goceano district.
Just outside the village lies the Sos Furrighesos necropolis, fourteen rock-cut tombs in a rocky slope. The area also has the sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Mesumundu, founded by Cistercians in the 12th century, and the church of San Giorgio di Aneleto, linked to an ancient fort.
