Berchidda

Berchidda is a municipality in the Province of Gallura North-East Sardinia with about 2,897 inhabitants, 300 metres above sea level.

Berchidda is a Monte Acuto village at the foot of Monte Limbara, with a huge territory reaching down to Lake Coghinas. It was founded in the 11th century near the castle that protected it, in the Giudicato of Torres.

Today Berchidda's name means two things: wine and jazz. Vermentino di Gallura is made here and showcased at the Wine Museum with the regional wine shop, and this is the birthplace of trumpeter Paolo Fresu, who brings the Time in Jazz festival to the village every August, with concerts in country churches and woods. The old centre keeps its stone houses and winding lanes.
