Tula

Tula is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Sassari with about 1,598 inhabitants, 275 metres above sea level.

Tula is a Monte Acuto village overlooking the large Lake Coghinas, among granite and trachyte hills, cork woods and pastures. Medieval in origin, it belonged to the Giudicato of Torres on the border with Gallura and grew under the protection of a castle. Its finest monument is the 12th-century Romanesque church of Santa Maria di Coros, built in Lombard style for the Vallombrosan monks, where the village's main feast is held on 8 September. The area holds the Sa Mandra Manna rock-cut tombs, finely carved in trachyte, and many nuraghi. A large wind farm stretches over the heights, and the lake shores are popular for fishing and birdwatching.
