Gallura and the Costa Smeralda

Wind-sculpted granite, islands reached by boat and Italy's most famous sea.

Gallura is granite country, with wind-carved pink rocks and maquis. On the north-east coast the Costa Smeralda, created in the 1960s, offers Porto Cervo and beaches such as Capriccioli and Liscia Ruja.

A short ferry from Palau takes you to the Maddalena archipelago national park and to Caprera, where Garibaldi lived. Santa Teresa di Gallura looks across to Corsica, and south of Olbia lies San Teodoro with Cala Brandinchi.
