Oschiri

Oschiri is a municipality in the Province of Gallura North-East Sardinia with about 3,436 inhabitants, 202 metres above sea level.

Oschiri is a Monte Acuto village on the shores of Lake Coghinas, with a large territory full of archaeological remains. In Roman times the castrum of Luguido stood here, and in the Middle Ages it was the seat of the diocese of Castro, recalled by the Romanesque church of Nostra Signora di Castro near the lake. Among the area's curiosities is the rock altar of Santo Stefano, a carved rock with niches and geometric figures whose meaning is still debated, and there are almost forty nuraghi. The village has the 19th-century parish church of the Immacolata and its palattu houses. The most heartfelt feast, Nostra Signora di Castro on the first Sunday after Easter, draws people from all over Monte Acuto.
