Uri

Uri is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Sassari with about 3,016 inhabitants, 150 metres above sea level.

Uri is a Coros village a few kilometres from Sassari and Alghero, in the valley of the Rio Cuga, where the lake of the same name lies. Medieval in origin, in the Giudicato of Torres, its territory is especially rich in nuraghi. The old centre keeps some palattu houses and the 16th-century church of the Madonna della Pazienza. When Lake Cuga was created, the Romanesque church of San Leonardo was dismantled stone by stone and rebuilt elsewhere. Uri is famous for its spiny artichoke, celebrated in March with a festival of traditional dishes, and the Madonna di Paulis is honoured at her church on 20 May.
