Osilo

Osilo is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Sassari with about 3,204 inhabitants, 615 metres above sea level.

Osilo is an Anglona village on Monte Tufudesu, at over six hundred metres, with the hamlets of Santa Vittoria and San Lorenzo. It grew from the 11th century around the Malaspina castle, whose ruins still dominate the village with a round keep, a square tower and walls, and offer views reaching the Gulf of Asinara. The old centre has narrow streets and stately houses, and the territory holds the Ittiari rock-cut tombs. Osilo is known for its pecorino cheese and traditional costumes, among the richest in the Sassari area. In August, after San Lorenzo, the feast of Sant'Antonio da Padova ends with the corsa all'anello, a horse race at the ring; Santa Vittoria is celebrated in May.
