Domus de Maria

Domus de Maria is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari with about 1,675 inhabitants, 66 metres above sea level.

Domus de Maria is the village of Chia on the southern coast: its territory includes the Su Giudeu dunes, the flamingo lagoon, the Spanish tower of Chia and some of Sardinia's most beautiful beaches. The Phoenician-Punic town of Bithia also stood here, and traces remain among the dunes. The village itself gathers along narrow streets around the 19th-century parish church of Nostra Signora del Rosario, and on the hill above are the ruins of Santisconata castle, built by the judges of Cagliari.
