Pula is a town on the south-west side of the Gulf of Cagliari, between farmland and the sea, now one of southern Sardinia's main resorts. In its territory, on the Capo di Pula peninsula, lies Nora, one of the island's most important ancient cities: founded by the Phoenicians, then Punic and Roman, with a theatre, baths, paved streets and mosaics facing the sea. In town the Archaeological Museum holds the finds from Nora, and near the excavations stands the Romanesque church of Sant'Efisio, where by tradition the saint was martyred: on 3 May the procession from Cagliari arrives here. The coast continues towards Santa Margherita di Pula with pine woods and long beaches.
