Allai is a hill village in the Barigadu, above the Tirso valley, with fewer than four hundred inhabitants. Tradition says it was founded in the Middle Ages when the people of two nearby villages, Alari and Barbagiana, moved to the present site.
The area has thirteen nuraghi and several giants' tombs. In the village the main monument is the late-Gothic 16th-century parish church of the Holy Spirit, and the most heartfelt feast in mid-May, which brings emigrants home, honours both the Holy Spirit and Saint Isidore, patron of farmers.
