Aglientu

Aglientu is a municipality in the Province of Gallura North-East Sardinia with about 1,171 inhabitants, 417 metres above sea level.

Aglientu is a small municipality in northern Gallura that runs from granite hills down to the sea, with a long, little-developed stretch of coast between Vignola and Rena Majore. The village is young: it only split from Tempio to become a municipality in 1959.

The area was inhabited long before, as a Palaeolithic site and the remains of several nuraghi show. Life centres on the church of San Francesco, rebuilt in granite in the 1960s in place of an 18th-century one, and January brings an unusual feast, San Paolo di lu laldu, the feast of lard.
