Luogosanto

Luogosanto is a municipality in the Province of Gallura North-East Sardinia with about 1,905 inhabitants, 321 metres above sea level.

Luogosanto is a Gallura village among granite and cork oaks whose name, holy place, comes from its churches: the 13th-century Romanesque basilica of Nostra Signora di Luogosanto, said to have been built by two friars from Corsica, is one of the few in Sardinia with a Holy Door. Nearby you can visit the hermitage of San Trano, a little church built inside a granite cave where saints Trano and Nicola are said to have lived, and the ruins of the Palazzo di Baldu, a fortified residence of the judges of Gallura.
