Zerfaliu is a small village in the Campidano Maggiore on the bank of the Tirso, between Solarussa and Villanova Truschedu, inhabited since nuragic times and without interruption through the Roman and early medieval periods; for some decades it was part of Solarussa. The area has several nuraghi and an imperial Roman necropolis that has yielded coins and pottery. In the centre stands the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, 16th-century in origin, and just outside, in an area rich in ancient remains, the Romanesque church of San Giovanni. On 6 August the Transfiguration, locally called Santu Domini, is celebrated with a costume procession, dancing and a poetry contest.
