Gonnesa is an Iglesiente village between the mines and the sea, with the hamlet of Nuraxi Figus and the mining village of Normann. In the Middle Ages the village of Conesa stood here, and the present town was resettled in 1774. Its coast is among the finest in the south-west: the beaches of Fontanamare and Plage Mesu, and Porto Paglia with two coastal towers that guarded the tuna fishery. The area has the nuragic village of Seruci and several nuraghi, and in town is the 14th-century parish church of Sant'Andrea, rebuilt in the 18th century.
