Fluminimaggiore

Fluminimaggiore is a municipality in the Province of Sulcis Iglesiente with about 2,966 inhabitants, 58 metres above sea level.

Fluminimaggiore is an Iglesiente town in a green valley between mountains and sea, with the coastal hamlets of Portixeddu and Sant'Angelo. Its territory holds one of Sardinia's most evocative sites, the temple of Antas, a Punic and later Roman sanctuary to the Sardus Pater, alone in a valley of holm oaks. Nearby are the Su Mannau caves, with underground lakes and formations, and the town has a palaeontology museum run by the local caving group. Mining long shaped the area's economy.
