Cabras

Cabras is a municipality in the Province of Oristano with about 9,032 inhabitants, 9 metres above sea level.

Cabras is the town of the lagoon and the Sinis, on the Gulf of Oristano: its territory includes the great lagoon that bears its name, the Sinis peninsula with the quartz beaches of Is Arutas and Mari Ermi, and a marine reserve. Fishing in the lagoon gave rise to mullet bottarga, one of the island's delicacies. In the Sinis stand the ruins of Tharros, a Phoenician-Punic and later Roman city by the sea at Capo San Marco, and the early Christian church of San Giovanni di Sinis. The town museum displays the Giants of Mont'e Prama, nuragic stone statues found here. On the first weekend of September the barefoot run, the Corsa degli Scalzi, heads to San Salvatore.
