Maracalagonis

Maracalagonis is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari with about 7,523 inhabitants, 86 metres above sea level.

Maracalagonis is a Campidano village east of Cagliari, formed by joining two old settlements: Mara, of Roman origin, and Calagonis, which grew in Byzantine times around the church of Santo Stefano. Its very long territory reaches the sea, including part of the Torre delle Stelle coast. The old centre has houses on a grid and 19th-century mansions, and the countryside has several nuraghi and the Cuccuru Carboni rock-cut tombs. On the last Sunday of July the Madonna d'Itria feast draws the faithful from all over the Campidano.
