Golfo Aranci

Golfo Aranci is a municipality in the Province of Gallura North-East Sardinia with about 2,288 inhabitants, 2 metres above sea level.

Golfo Aranci is the ferry-port village, on a peninsula between Olbia and the open sea at the foot of Capo Figari. Its name comes from a mistake: in Gallurese the place was the golfo di li ranci, the gulf of crabs, which an 18th-century mapmaker turned into the gulf of oranges. It has been a municipality since 1979. The area has fine beaches and coves, from Cala Moresca to Spiaggia Bianca, and off Capo Figari lies Figarolo island with its mouflon. Inland are the nuragic sacred wells of Milis and Sa Testa. A fish festival is held in June, and ferries leave for Livorno and Civitavecchia.
